RALLY IN APPRECIATION OF DR. ELLIOTT WOLFE

As many of you know, the Stanford School of Medicine recently decided not to renew Dr. Elliott Wolfe's contract for the next academic year. Many of us were shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of a favorite teacher, physician, mentor, and role model, and disappointed by the lack of response from the administration on this issue. Many of us consider Dr. Wolfe to be the most thoughtful, compassionate, and wise physician educator at Stanford. In response to earlier emails, we have received a flood of supportive messages in support of Dr. Wolfe, voicing the belief that as students, we have been changed by his presence in our lives and feel that we will be better doctors having had him as a mentor.

In response to these recent events and the disappointment (and even outrage!) expressed by students, we will be holding a rally in appreciation of Dr. Wolfe this Friday, December 14th, at noon in the Dean's Courtyard. Dr. Wolfe will of course be invited, as will members of the School of Medicine's administration. We invite all of you who have been touched by Dr. Wolfe to attend the rally. You can choose to simply be present, but we are also inviting you to share your thoughts at the rally and read the wonderful letters that so many of you have written in support of Dr. Wolfe, both recently and in the past. Alternatively, Kristen and I would be happy to read a letter or statement you have written (even anonymously) if you would prefer that or cannot be present.
